What are the Best Tips for Skincare While Traveling?

Most of us are headed somewhere this holiday season, whether to celebrate with friends, family or taking a true vacation. But don’t let your skin get in the way of having a wonderful time. Here are some tips that will help you travel easily and beautifully!

One of the first things most people do upon checking into a hotel is scope out the products in the bathroom, but it’s important to know that most companies actually pay to have their products in hotel rooms, and these products are not always the best for your skin. So before you start slathering on the products you find in your room, there are a few things to consider.

  1. Know your Baumann Skin Type and which ingredients you should avoid. This will save you lots of hassle and help you choose the correct products on your shopping trips, no matter what country you are in.
  2. Bring a few essential items with you as described below.
  3. Don’t get a facial while travelling—opt for a massage instead. Your skin is more sensitive after air travel and climate changes.
  4. The best luxury skincare brands in my opinion are Dior, Guerlain, La Mer, and La Prairie. Be suspicious of brands that are clothing or jewelry brands that do not have a reputation for skincare technology.
  5. If your skin is supersensitive, bring your own pillowcase. The hotel detergents can wreak havoc on your skin.

Tips for using the products provided in a hotel room

If your skin is accustomed to a humid environment, it’s more likely to react to fragrance if you travel to an arid destination. And whatever you do, don’t apply body lotions to your face, and don’t use the shampoo on your body.

Skincare products you should pack when you travel

You don’t need to pack your entire skincare arsenal when you travel. Feel free to use the hair conditioner hotels provide to shave your legs (and on your hair, of course). You can also leave your toothpaste at home since most hotels have it for you if you ask. And don’t take up room in your suitcase with sunscreen since any hotel with a pool or beach will stock it at the gift shop. For even more info, check out my other packing- and destination-specific blogs to find out what beauty items to buy (and what to bring with you) when travelling.

What to bring

The most important products to bring with you are cleanser and moisturizer, since using the wrong formulation can upset your skin—and make for a less-than-fun vacation. Fortunately for all of us, there are a variety of websites that sell travel-sized versions of very popular and effective products, and odds are they carry products that you use at home. 3floz.com has everything you need for face, body, men, kids and sun protection. There’s also a wide selection of more clinical-grade lines at SkinTypeSolutionsStore.com (where you can click on “travel sizes” and shop by your skin type).

Between packing smart and making the most of the toiletries in your hotel room, both you and your skin can have a beautiful holiday season. Safe travels, and please share your tips with us at SkinTypeSolutions.com!
