Skincare Travel Tips

I spend a lot of my time traveling and my sensitive DSNW skin can get irritated if I am not careful.  Here are some skincare tips that I use to protect my skin when I travel:

1. Be Wary of Hotel Products

One of the first things that most people do upon checking into a hotel is scope out the products in the bathroom. It is important to know that most companies actually pay to have their products in hotel rooms. They are often very fragranced and are not always the best for your skin. So before you start slathering on the products you find in your room, there are a few things to consider:

  • Know your Baumann Skin Type and which ingredients you should avoid. This will save you lots of hassle and help you choose the correct products on your shopping trips, no matter what country you’re in.

  • Bring a few essential items with you as described below.

  • Don’t get a facial while traveling. Instead, opt for a massage. Your skin is more sensitive after air travel and climate changes, and getting a facial could worsen irritation.

  • Be suspicious of using skincare products from clothing or jewelry brands that do not have a reputation for skincare technology.

  • If your skin is supersensitive, bring your own pillowcase. Hotel detergents can wreak havoc on your skin.

2. If You Have to Use Hotel Products, Keep These Tips in Mind

Sometimes, avoiding the convenience of hotel products isn’t entirely possible, so if you do have to use these products, there’s a right and a wrong way to do it. If your skin is accustomed to a humid environment, it’s more likely to react to fragrance if you travel to an arid destination, so keep perfumes to a minimum. And whatever you do, don’t apply body lotions to your face, and don’t use the shampoo on your body.

3. Know What to Leave at Home

You don’t need to pack your entire skincare arsenal when you travel. Feel free to use the hair conditioner hotels provide to shave your legs and on your hair, of course. You can also leave your toothpaste at home since most hotels have it for you if you ask. And don’t take up room in your suitcase with sunscreen, since any hotel with a pool or beach will stock it at the gift shop.

4. Pack the Essentials

The most important products to bring with you are your cleanser and moisturizer, since using the wrong formulation for your skin type can upset your skin and make for a less-than-fun vacation. Fortunately for all of us, there are a variety of websites that sell travel-sized versions of very popular and effective products, and odds are, they carry products that you use at home.

The Bottom Line

Between packing smart and making the most of the toiletries in your hotel room, both you and your skin can have a beautiful holiday season, no matter where you’re traveling. Don’t forget that knowing your Baumann Skin Type before your departure is key to knowing which products to pack and which ingredients to avoid. If you don’t know your skin type, head over to SkinTypeSolutions.com to find a physician who can accurately diagnose your skin type, and customize a skincare regimen that will keep your skin happy and healthy, no matter where your travels may take you.
