Get Ready for the Holiday Season with Fast and Easy Rejuvenating Treatments

For the vast majority of us, the holiday season is filled with chaotic hustle and bustle as we run every which way trying to shop, clean our houses and prepare parties and meals. But, you only need a little time to look your absolute best thanks to these rejuvenating treatments that require little, if any, downtime. Best of all, many of these can be completed in a single afternoon.

Injectables

Many injectable treatments have been nicknamed “lunchtime procedures” because they can be just that. There’s no need to schedule an entire day off of work or away from holiday preparation to look your best. There are three main types of injectables currently available:

  • Botox or Dysport: These injectables contain neurotoxins that work by relaxing the facial muscles responsible for creating the expression lines and wrinkles that can age our appearance. These treatment sessions typically take less than 20 minutes to perform and require virtually no downtime. Just keep in mind that it can take up to a week to see results, so plan accordingly!
  • Dermal fillers: Dermal fillers like Juvéderm and Restylane contain hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that is already naturally present in the skin (American Society of Plastic Surgeons). Available in versions designed to restore volume, smooth fine lines, plump the lips and more, you’ll walk out of the office looking and feeling better thanks to instant results.
  • Kybella: Kybella is an innovative nonsurgical treatment to address excess fat in the chin and neck area, often called a double chin. It is comprised of a non-animal version of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that breaks down dietary fat in the body. Kybella allows physicians to selectively target the fat beneath the chin that detracts from an otherwise balanced and harmonious facial appearance (U.S. FDA). This fat is often resistant to diet and exercise, and is most influenced by age and genetics. Kybella can also be combined with other injectable treatments for more comprehensive results.

Skin Resurfacing Treatments

The terms “rejuvenating” and “resurfacing” are often mistakenly used interchangeably, but they do have a distinct difference. Skin rejuvenation refers to any procedure that makes the skin look better. Skin resurfacing is a specific type of rejuvenating treatment that physically removes the top layer of skin to reveal a smoother, fresh tone and texture. Chemical peels are one of the most popular skin resurfacing treatments and they  require little or no downtime.

Either at home or in the dermatologist’s office, peels generally use acids such as glycolic acid to remove the uppermost layers of skin. A series of eight to 10 treatments spaced a few weeks or so apart can improve fine lines and discoloration without any recovery time. These peels are not effective for deeper wrinkles, and may cause skin discoloration when performed by inexperienced providers, so be sure to seek out a properly trained professional.

Ultherapy

One of the latest weapons in the fight against sagging skin is Ultherapy. In the past, surgery was your only recourse, but with this ultrasound treatment you can tighten up with no downtime. It’s the first treatment of its kind that allows doctors to look below the skin’s surface before sending energy directly to where your skin needs tightening. As a result, you can see less sagging after two treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, as old, slack collagen is replaced with new, stronger collagen (Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology). While this treatment may take a bit more planning than some other rejuvenating options, the time investment is well worth it in the long run, and results can be very long-lasting.
